Burda Style Magazine Pattern Review - Sept 2013

I don't always like the patterns in the Burda Magazines so I don't tend to buy it every month. I have bought it this month but I won't say I was jumping up and down but I do like more than two patterns so the magazine qualified for a purchase.

Anyway here are a few I like.

Romantic Dress

Love seeing these type of dresses on those that can carry it off, they always look so dreamy and romantic. Not one for me though, I would look like a buxom milk maid.

Skirt

I will definitely be trying this skirt because for some strange reason I love making skirts. According to the magazine the slit results from two overlapping front pieces which are caught in the side seams.

Boat Neck Dress

I really like this. Not sure whether this will suit my petite chubby frame, perhaps a smaller star. Anyway I want to make it as I just love the boat neck. If I hate it on me after doing a muslin, I will sack it, but the dress is so damn cool. No doubt some will say it looks a little 80's but hey that's my era.

Peplum Blouse

This is one cute blouse. Fly front closing and a double gathered peplum to accentuate the waist. I'd call mine more of a girth than a waist but hey am going to be all over this one, since I have a wide belt that will keep the girth in check.

Embroidered Waist Coat

Liking this little waist coat too, described as an exotic short waistcoat made of richly embroidered silk and embellished with braids invisibly closed with snap fasteners. Sounds scrumptious doesn't it hehe. I will also attempt the tunic underneath.

Tunic

Speaking of tunics here it is again in a patterned fabric accented with satin piping. This pattern is in the plus size of the magazine.

Silk Cape

Last but not least is this cape. It wouldn't suit my style but I think it is really nice. Made of silk duchesse and worn like a stole across the shoulders. This would look great on the right person.

Anyway they are my picks, so I have my money's worth since the magazine is only £4.75. There a few other patterns I like and will attempt but they will rank lower than the above.

Sidenote: I give up trying to make my images uniform in relation to the text some have wider spaces than the others and when I delete the spaces the image disappears or ends up somewhere else hehe.

Until Next Time

I love the romantic dress too. But I would not look so romantic either. Maybe someday! Haha...The vest is fabulous! I love it and wonder if I could carry that off with the tunic. Great choices. I have my fingers crossed for a Burda subscription for my birthday this year (the family/ friends better come through!) ~Laurie

    1. Laurie, thanks for commenting. Love a comment hehe. Of course you can carry off the vest with the tunic that's what I like about it. I love that kind of style, you don't feel self conscious if you're carrying a little extra weight like me.

  4. I like all your picks, particularly the romantic dress and the boatneck dress! Burda magazine does have a few gems, and it's well worth getting one once in a while; I reckon you get a lot of bang for your buck.

  8. I agree, Burda is very hit and miss! Often I will see a pattern that I like one aspect of, such as loving the bodice of a dress but hating the skirt. Then I get all put off about not liking any pattern as a whole and never buy any issues.. oops!
